marry.lk is operated by Binary Digital Labs (Pvt) Ltd (Company Registration No. PV00293965) (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data with care and respect. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the “Service”).
We are committed to compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022 of Sri Lanka and applicable international data protection standards.
Please read this policy carefully. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account registration details (name, email address, phone number, date of birth)
- Profile information (photos, religion, caste, ethnicity, education, occupation, location, horoscope details)
- Partner preferences and expectations
- Identity verification documents (National Identity Card or Passport)
- Messages sent through the in-app messaging feature
- Communications sent to our support team
- Contact form submissions and feedback
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information (device type, operating system, unique device identifiers)
- Usage data (pages visited, features used, time spent on the platform)
- IP address and approximate city-level location (we do not access GPS or precise location)
- App performance data and crash reports
- Push notification device token (used solely to deliver service notifications to your device)
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies when using the website (see Section 9)
3. Sensitive Personal Data
As a matrimony platform, we necessarily collect certain categories of sensitive personal data, including:
- Religious affiliation
- Caste and ethnic origin
- Horoscope and astrological information
- Identity documents (NIC or Passport) submitted for profile verification
We collect this information solely to operate the matrimony matching service and to verify user identity. Sensitive personal data is:
- Processed only with your explicit consent
- Never sold or shared for commercial or advertising purposes
- Accessible only to authorised staff and only for the stated purpose
Identity documents submitted for verification are reviewed only by authorised team members, are never displayed to other users, and are deleted within 90 days of verification completion or account deletion, whichever is earlier.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and profile
- Verify your identity and authenticate your profile
- Provide and personalise the matchmaking service, including automated match suggestions and daily recommendations
- Generate AI-assisted profile summaries (see Section 6)
- Enable communication between matched users
- Respond to your enquiries and provide customer support
- Send service-related notifications via push notification, email, or SMS
- Monitor and improve the safety and quality of the Service
- Comply with legal obligations under applicable law, including the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022
5. Automated Decision-Making & Matching
marry.lk uses automated processing to generate match suggestions, daily profile recommendations, and compatibility scores based on your profile data and partner preferences. These automated systems are designed to surface potentially compatible profiles for you to evaluate — they do not make any legally binding or otherwise significant decisions about you.
You have the right to:
- Adjust your partner preferences at any time to influence the suggestions you receive
- Request human review if you believe automated processing has produced an incorrect or unfair result
- Contact us if you have concerns about how matching decisions are made
6. AI-Powered Features
marry.lk uses artificial intelligence to generate written summaries of user profiles. When this feature processes your profile:
- Only selected non-sensitive profile fields (such as personal description, profession, and interests) are used — sensitive data such as religion, caste, and identity documents are excluded from AI processing
- AI-generated summaries are visible to other logged-in users as part of your public profile
- AI outputs are for informational purposes only and do not reflect our opinion or assessment of any user
You may request that your AI-generated summary be reviewed, corrected, or removed at any time by contacting us at support@marry.lk.
7. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- With other users: Profile information you choose to make visible is shared with other registered members as part of the matchmaking service.
- Service providers: We work with trusted third-party providers for cloud hosting, messaging, analytics, payment processing, and customer support. These providers are contractually bound to process your data only on our behalf and in accordance with this policy.
- Payment processors: For Premium subscriptions, payment details are handled directly by our payment partners. We do not store full payment card details on our servers.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.
8. International Data Transfers
Some of the service providers we work with operate outside Sri Lanka. As a result, your personal data may be transferred to and processed in other countries. Where such transfers occur, we take steps to ensure your data is protected by appropriate safeguards, including contractual obligations on service providers to maintain data protection standards equivalent to those required under Sri Lankan law.
9. Cookies & Tracking (Website)
When you use the marry.lk website, we use cookies and similar tracking technologies to:
- Maintain your session and keep you logged in
- Analyse usage patterns to improve the Service
- Measure the reach and effectiveness of our content
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of the website. Cookie-based tracking applies to the website only; the mobile app uses separate device-level identifiers.
10. Your Privacy Rights & Controls
You have meaningful control over your personal information:
- Visibility controls: Choose who can see your photos — all members, only matches, or no one
- Contact privacy: Hide personal contact details until you choose to share them with a specific match
- Profile pause or deactivation: Pause or deactivate your profile at any time from the app settings
- Data access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you by emailing support@marry.lk
- Data correction: Update or correct your profile information at any time through the app; for data you cannot self-correct, contact us and we will action it promptly
- Account and data deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time (see Section 12 for retention periods)
- Consent revocation: Withdraw consent for optional processing — such as push notifications or profile featuring — at any time through app settings or by contacting us
- Right to object: Object to specific data processing activities by contacting us at support@marry.lk; we will respond within a reasonable time

11. Chat & Messaging Data
Messages sent between users through the in-app messaging feature are stored securely to deliver the service. Message data is:
- Accessible only to the sender and recipient
- Never used for advertising, profiling, or AI processing
- Retained for as long as both users' accounts remain active
- Deleted within 90 days when both accounts are deleted
If you block another user, their messages are no longer delivered to you and the conversation is hidden from your view. We may retain flagged or reported message content for a limited period as part of our safety review process.
12. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specific retention periods after an account deletion request:
- Profile data and photos: deleted within 90 days
- Identity verification documents: deleted within 90 days of verification completion or account deletion, whichever is earlier
- Chat messages: deleted within 90 days
- Usage and analytics data: retained for up to 24 months in aggregated or anonymised form only
We may retain certain data beyond these periods where required by applicable law, for the resolution of disputes, or for legitimate safety and fraud prevention purposes.
13. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include:
- Encryption of data in transit and at rest
- Secure server infrastructure with strict access controls
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Staff training on data protection practices
No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at support@marry.lk.
14. Children's Privacy
marry.lk is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that we have collected data from someone under 18, we will take immediate steps to delete that information and suspend the associated account.
15. Your Rights under the Sri Lanka PDPA
Under the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022 of Sri Lanka, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- Right of access: Obtain confirmation of whether we process your data and receive a copy of it
- Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements
- Right to data portability: Receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used format
- Right to object: Object to processing of your personal data in certain circumstances
- Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on your consent, withdraw that consent at any time without affecting prior processing

16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
